I'm okay with Dumbledore being so one-dimensional, because it's not until his death and the last book that Harry questions who he really was aside from a wizard who constantly manipulated everyone around him. The loss of that mentor/leader and the realisation of his manipulation is the final step in Harry's growing-up process and simultaneously his quest. Also, did you catch the moment where Dumbledore seemed to realise for the first time that Harry's scar was probably a Horcrux too?!

Alan Rickman was SO GOOD in this movie. If you hadn't read the books you would still be trying to figure out whether he was good or bad. Oh, the nuances!

I also loved the havoc wreaked by the Death Eaters. With this book I was still wondering what the hell was so scary about Voldemort, aside from the fact that he killed a few people fifteen years ago. The movie makes it clear: he and his Death-Eaters are unhinged, and they attack Muggles and wizards alike for no reason and with no warning. However, I have to disagree about Helena Bonham-Carter. I usually like her as an actress, but she chewed the scenery so hard in this movie. No one is that crazy, even a woman with the surname LeStrange. Next to the other scary but not-frothing-at-the-mouth Death-Eaters she was just irritating.

Having read the novel before the movie, I would say it really helped with the storyline. The trasnsition from book to screen is phenomonal. Only Zack Snyder could have done it.

I really enjoyed the movie. They changed the ending, but I think it was wise. It's such a cutting edge movie that the original ending would have made it laughable and lame. The new ending is slightly more logical.

I have to say I think that alot of the dialogue was pretty lame, it just didn't translate well onto the screen, especially in Nite Owl II's case.

I still really loved the film and the book, but on two different levels.

I never realised you had always wanted to go to New Orleans, I thought you didn't. It's funny we have always wanted to do several of the same things like New Orleans or the learning Latin thing. I think the culture and festivals would be awesome. Plus I fell in love with the idea of going when I read Anne Rice's descriptions, she paints such a lovely picture of the place.

i should have thought.. i would have bought a pristine copy, not one i have already read.. atleast i only read it once.. so its not ratty or anything.. but the spine is creased..

i've always wanted to go to new orleans... i want to go for the Día de los Muertos there (day of the dead - spanish festival.. lots of fun!!) and for the music... and food, and culture... maybe, one day, off in the rosey very distant future when health permits, we should go LOL

The last thing you need is for people to tell you what you should be doing. Take it all as a suggestion and then decide what you want to do based on what you want to do. It's your life, you have to live it so you have to decide what you want to do not what others tell you to do. Trust yourself and listen to your instincts, don't force it or be hard on yourself. You'll figure it out, I know you will.

That might not help or appear to be piffle but I'm not the one to force ideas or paths onto people. I'm more about instilling confidence in people so they know they can achieve those things

hehe i picked up 3 books at galaxy last night (one has 2 novels in the one volume)- and i didnt quite pass the value of the vouchure, and rather than coming back later, sophia just gave me the change! :D hehe so free books and free money! ;-p

It seems everyone is trying to give me advice on what i should be doing with my life. i just had our accountant at work saying i should make an aus archaeology magazine.. i had to explain to him that it isnt the easiest thing to do... nor is it likely to rake in the cash.. he also asked if i was planning on moving to london cos i mentioned i used to dream of working for the british museum... started talking about living costs etc.. i had to explain to him, that in my ideal world, i would be working in thailand... i don't know. i want to go back to uni in townsville, but at the same time, i keep thingking "jacq, that is taking a step backwards, not forwards"! And do i want to do that, or sit down, revealuate, and decided how to step forwards.... it was all so easy before i moved here... i had my goals, my milestones, and i had a timeline with alternatives... now i am stuck in a fogbank - in more ways than one.

i just dont know how to find my way out through the fog............. *sigh*

You seem to have a lot going on upstairs (not always a bad thing but sometimes it can be too much), I hope the cathartic (I love that word) act of writing helps you figure out what you're meant to be doing and where you're meant to be headed.

Yeah I understand because I have had the same problem. With a bit of practice it gets easier to share these things but really only when you feel like you have an open audience. Or at least people who make you want to share (like ask you insistent questions so you have to).

I didn't find writing in a journal in the early years hard but later on I did. I figured it might be because I used to have the idea that I would publish a journal as a fiction piece at some point, so really it was like I was writing to an audience, but not really.

I think if you can personify the journal (which might sound nuts but it's not really) like you're writing to an entity or having a one sided conversation then it would be easier.

LOL WAY too many quotes.. i dont plan on getting it done until i find one that speaks to my soul (that sounds corny, but i want something that really speaks to me, that is eternal and ageless..) and that I really chose above all others.. the one i am thinking at the moment is one from a middle english text called Piers Plowman. Its a religious text, but at the same time it speaks universally. It has the personification of things like the 7 sins etc, metaphors and allergory etc. There is a section in there - i cant find it online, as there is three different versions, and the C-Text isnt showing up. But it is basically "love, most precious of virtues, is the plant of peace, heaven could not hold it, it was so heavy that it fell from heaven and begot itself here" <-- that is just from memory - and its translated into modern english. I prefer the middle english. it is a lot more poetic and meaningful.. I like it as a universal statment. I love the imagery, this plant (Yggdrasil, Bodhi, Tree of Life, Axis Mundi etc) that is so intertwined in the heaven, land and earth, sending shoots out to wrap around everything... And that it stands for love, peace, understanding... I want to draw it as an image, but if i got it as a lit tatt, it would be in an old english font. Anna (who also took Old English and Middle English classes at JCU) suggested that (which was already top of my list) as well as Hwaet (means something like Lo! or Indeed! or something - it is the first word in Beowulf, and was the poet's/bard's way of saying "give me your attention, take heed of what i am about to say!") or something else from Beowulf.. I was also thinking Dream of the Rood or the Battle of Maldon, which are my two other favourite works from that era.

Another option is one of the millions of quotes from Charles de Lint's books.. they always speak to me.. Also Tool lyrics.. damn, you realise i have a WHOLE book nearly filled with quotes i love... And more I havent added yet.. i just have too many to choose from!! but i still want to get more suggestions, and hear what other people would get... I am facinated with enscribing words on flesh.. Kinda like the Painted Man. Words have power....

I know you arent sick of me dumping on you, but i dont tell you or anyone everything that is on my mind... i did to start, but some friends made up their own mind, and dont listen anymore.. or i get friends thinking i am crazy.. made me more likely to not say things.. i have so many thoughts running around my head, and not all of them are fit for public consumption. I know i can talk to you about almost anything, out of my friends you are the least likely to judge me, to understand me, but at the same time, i grew up where i couldnt say what i felt. i feel it has made me somewhat inhibited... words were used against me, so i stopped letting the serious stuff out. i still find it hard. i am getting better.. i know i can always talk to you or linda.. but at the same time, everyone has their own issues, and I dont feel right dumping when some one is either hi when i am low, or low when i am hi... Like i wanted to tell Lillian something, was jumping up and down to tell her, but she had heard some VERY bad news, so i went into confi'dant mode and decided to tell her later.. And then i forget about it, or it doesnt seem all that important anymore.. I used to write letters. I would pour my heart out onto the page.... (my record is 30 pages, double sized, and with tiny hand writting to tamara in my first year at uni) and then send it off and never see it again. i just couldnt keep a journal, so i would use letters instead. then i found blogs.. I could write it all down, i had an audience (making it easier for me to write) and, i could keep a copy... if i had the net on in my room, and i didnt work full time, i could put all this stuff down, but i dont, and i cant. paper it shall be! have you ever found writting a journal hard?? Aside from cramping hands? if so, how did you get around it??
